A friend and I went to Memorial Park on Saturday… I noticed that during the long walk and some “power walking” that I did (he went running, but I’m in no shape for that yet) that I didn’t really follow any trains of thought.
Sure, I appreciated the hotties and eye candy… However, beyond that, I wasn’t listening to music, being on my normal media overload, or keeping my mind busy. I was just enjoying the walk.
I hurt my foot somehow, but I didn’t notice until later in the day. It was somewhat interesting. I was the only sober person in the group and I wouldn’t have passed the “walk the line” sobriety test because my foot was so gimpy. I think I tore a tendon.
Next time… I’m going to stretch my feet better.
In any case… I noticed that I was a lot more clear minded during the rest of the day after the “break” from all of the media overload. I love music, media, photography, and art… However, it was kind of nice to just “be with myself”.
I’m going to start setting aside time again. I had meditated in the past, but I always forgot to set aside time just for that purpose.
I’ll be doing a few different techniques (mostly breath concentration) to get back into the groove of it.
What techniques do you use for meditation?
Well, not much has really been going on lately. I’ve been chairing the April Friday night 9:30pm meetings at Lambda. It’s been fun and very rewarding. It’s definitely been helping me maintain my sobriety.
I’ve also been staying at a friend’s house in Houston. I’ll be staying there off and on when I’m craving more bandwidth and wanting to be around the city.
At the moment, I’m at my parents’ house. I missed some of the quiet/silence, so I figured I might as well come down for a few days. I don’t have as much bandwidth here, but at least I do have high speed Internet. In the past, I used to dread being here because I had to use a wireless / cellular network such as Sprint or AT&T to access the Internet. They all had a maximum of 1megabit. At least now, with the new provider, I get around 4-7 megabits, depending on the time of day which is just fine for my general use.
The main thing that I don’t like is isolation and I can resolve that by taking a trip into Houston to hang out at Lambda or to hang out with friends.
I paid the deductible on my car and it has been repaired. I think it looks great. I need to take it to the car wash later to go clean it up. (Wash and vacuum it.)
I’m going to at least keep it clean since it’s been repaired. Since I put it through some trauma, I should baby it for a while. :P
Some other things have been going on that I can’t really write about yet, but I think they’re going to be good changes, so we’ll see what happens. I’ll find out more at the end of the week. Let’s just say that if you believe in a higher power, ask for some help for me for everything to work out. Otherwise, send some good vibes this way. More will be written about it at a later time when more information is known, but suffice it to say they’re very important changes and I hope they happen.
I’ve taken more time off of school so that I can save up money for tuition. I really hope I can do it this time. I only have 6 or 7 classes left until I can graduate with a B.S. in Psychology. However, I might go ahead and retake a couple of classes to bring my GPA back up prior to graduation so that I can get into a better post-graduate school.
It’s been a relaxing day…
I hung out with a friend yesterday and took him to dinner. Today is his birthday.
I’ve been listening to some Bach and drinking some tea that I made… I’ve done laundry (still need to fold it), and have done some light cleaning around the house.
I slept in for the most part. I woke up around 12:00, so I guess I am somewhat “caught up” on sleep.
I’ve been house sitting for a friend / practically moving in… I’m still going to live at my parents’.
His parents avoided him like the plague… Now, they’ve come to the house two or three times since he’s been in Austin.
… It’s just weird.
His mom complained about how the yard looked when she came by to “check in on him”, so I mowed it after work on Thursday…
Then on Friday or Saturday, his parents came over and did yard work.
Then they came back today to measure a door for replacement/repair. I’ll get some steel and repair it if they’d like since it’s a nonstandard size/would be custom order.
Anywho… Off to listen to some more music and to relax.
